Welcome to Cataloged Clutter! We enjoy collecting and spending time with junk wax, common cards, overlooked cards… No card is too common here!
We now have videos of the first 28 cards in the 1993 Action Packed Hall of Fame set. But this #28 Tom Gola is exciting though, because find me another card with an action/game photo of Tom Gola. Action shots from games are rare for some of these early players. For Tom Gola, before this 1993 Action Packed card, you have one chance for a game photo, and that’s 1961-62 Fleer #51. Everything else is either staged or illustrated…the ’57-58 Topps, the other ’61-62 Fleer, a few other oddball cards. Don’t overlook the effort Action Packed put into these photos. The Bob Davies from this 1993 set is similar. It’s basically the first game photo of Davies on a card.
But it’s the historical summaries on these cards that make them so fascinating to collect. For example, look at this first bullet point…you really should know this stat. It says here that Gola holds the all-time NCAA record with 2,201 career rebounds. Now, this is a 1993 card…over two decades have passed since it was printed. Wonder who has the record today? That’s right! Gola still holds the NCAA record for most rebounds. By the way, he was also the first NCAA player to compile both 2,000 points and 2,000 rebounds. Gola is a legend at his alma mater, La Salle. They named their arena after him.
Really cool card, and I definitely encourage you to check out the rest of this set or revisit your set if you have one. Lot of overlooked, fun cards like this one…and only the second game photo of the current NCAA rebounding record-holder. Really curious to see what else we’re going to run into as we finish collecting this set.
Please subscribe and collect with us! We give every individual basketball card that we can get our hands on its own video… It’s something a bit different from the usual big-money investing and box breaks. Think of it as a mini-podcast for each of your forgotten and overlooked basketball cards. I hope it allows you to spend time with some of your collection that might’ve been forgotten.
