1995-96 Stadium Club #295 Scott Williams

Welcome to Cataloged Clutter! We enjoy collecting and spending time with junk wax, common cards, overlooked cards… No card is too common here!

This is the first card from the 1995-96 Stadium Club base set in our video collection. The price guides call this a common card, but look at this emotion from Scott Williams! He doesn’t care what the price guides say.

Since this is a first from the set, let’s talk ’95-96 Stadium Club. There set felt familiar from the beginning for those of us that enjoyed collecting Stadium Club in the ’90’s. This is the third year in a row that the set fell in around 360 cards (360, 362 and this year 361) with 180 in Series I and 181 in Series II where this Scott Williams is found. The familiar full-bleed photo was there and Topps was careful not to allow the brand logo or player and team names to interfere with that photo. What made this year stand out was the addition of these blue beams and bursts of color around the gold-foil. And, as we’ve come to expect, the backs stayed very busy in design. A unique feature was a bar graph showing how a player’s stats last season, compared to his career-high and career-total for that same stat. Here, for example, we can see that Scott Williams set his career-high in rebounds per game last season. In fact, as the card points out, Williams set career highs in games, minutes, field goals, free throw percentage, rebounds, steals and points. It was all about increased playing time allowing him to make a mark in the league. The card mentions his six consecutive double-doubles resulting from that time on the court. So it really seemed like this trade from the Bulls to the 76ers was going to really work out. The momentum certainly was there! Unfortunately, injuries affected his time at Philadelphia. And this remains a common card.

That’s all for today. A simple introduction to 1995-96 Stadium Club and a moment in time when we saw a burst of energy from a player right after a trade.
